Encounter with an elderly man had lost his way home (Part 1)

I had just came home after an outing with my family when I found an elderly man standing at the lift to go up today at the ground floor level.  We asked him if he wanted to go up because he was standing at the lift there and he said yes he did, when we entered the lift, we ask him to which level but all he repeatedly said was the block number which did not match the block we were staying in.  I suspected he might have lost his way home and so I asked my family to go home first while I figure out where he stayed.  He kept repeating a phone number which he said was his daughter contact number.  Called the number once but was rejected and so I tried my luck again with the same number and to my surprise the lady pose a question back to me if I was with her father and I said yes I was.  She had called the police on this matter and was actually relieve to hear her father was safe and sound.  Next I took him to a place to sit down while waiting for the police and the family to come to the block, I felt that he was cold and suspected that he had dementia because when I ask him questions, he seems confuse and the answers did not really match.  I wrap around him my shawl and told him to cover himself because I could feel he was really shivering and he was very tired to a point that he was trying to doze off all the time when he was with me.  He refuse the drinks and food when I ask if I could get him anything.  In my mind, I was worried as I could feel he was hypo and that he was a diabetic.  The police arrived minutes later and I told them that he was afraid of the police as he verbalize earlier to me before their arrival.  He remembered he had an encounter with them before and this triggered the fear in him.  Not long after the police arrived, the helper had rushed down.  I handed the helper and the elderly man to the police before proceeding home.  Called the daughter on the way home and she mention to me that its multiple times that he had lost his way home and that always there would be angels above looking after him and making sure he safely made his way home.  He was suffering from Alzheimer and he was a diabetic with multiple medical problems, I was glad to fine him when I did as he could have just fainted,   He happens to be in the mid-stage of Alzheimer which happens to be the most difficult stage as the challenges such as wandering becomes more of a danger , behavior wise also.  I hope that people who read this, please remember that there is always help out there.  I will blog more later for the updates on how this elderly man is now.  Hopefully by tomorrow, he will feel a lot better.
